FSC CoC, Forest Product Management

The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization founded in 1993 to promote environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world’s forests.

FSC®’s mission is supported globally by environmental and labor organizations, representatives of indigenous peoples, as well as companies from the forestry and wood-related industries.

The international organization Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC) has developed standards for Forest Management certification and for companies involved in the trade and production of wood-based products under the FSC Chain of Custody system.

FSC Forest Management certification ensures that forest management is carried out in a responsible and sound manner.

The FSC Chain of Custody standard defines a management system aimed at the effective tracking of raw materials used in a company’s production processes. This traceability covers all stages of processing—from sourcing to delivery to the final consumer—ensuring that both raw materials and subsequent procedures comply with the requirements of the standard and responsible forest management practices.

This standard is applicable to sawmills, wholesalers, retailers, furniture and paper manufacturers, publishers, and printing companies.

FSC®-certified companies demonstrate their commitment to environmental and ethical practices. Certification in accordance with FSC requirements offers specific benefits to the certified company’s clients and partners, including:

• Enhanced trust through documented compliance with an internationally recognized standard
• Increased acceptance of wood and wood products by customers and consumers who value responsible sourcing

TÜV HELLAS is authorized to conduct audits through its parent company TÜV NORD CERT GmbH, and to issue accredited certificates for the FSC Chain of Custody standard. To date, TÜV NORD CERT has issued over 600 certificates to companies in the paper and wood product sectors.
